Why does my ROLI or LUMI piano make no sound?
Your ROLI or LUMI piano lights up but stays silent? It has no built-in speaker. Here is where the sound comes from and how to hear it.
It has no speaker
LUMI Keys and ROLI Piano M are MIDI controllers: they send notes, they do not produce sound themselves. The sound always comes from the app on your computer, tablet or phone.
Check the app sound
In DOLI PIANO, make sure the speaker icon in the top bar is on and the volume in Settings is up. Check that your computer is not muted and that the right speakers or headphones are selected.
Check the connection
If the keys do not move anything on screen, the piano is not connected. Plug it in with a USB-C data cable and press Connect.
Using headphones
Plug your headphones into the computer, not the keyboard. The sound follows the computer's audio output.
Quick checklist
Go through these in order: the keys move something on screen (if not, the piano is not connected); the sound icon in the app is on; the app volume is above zero; the computer is not muted; the right audio output is selected in your system sound settings; the browser tab is not muted (right-click the tab to check). Most silent setups are solved by one of these six points.
Sound on a Mac
Open System Settings, then Sound, and check the selected output. If headphones or a monitor with speakers were connected earlier, the Mac may still send sound there. Browsers also need one click on the page before they are allowed to play audio, so click anywhere in the app once after opening it.
Sound on Windows
Click the speaker icon in the taskbar and check the output device. Open the Volume Mixer and make sure Chrome is not muted. Bluetooth headphones that disconnected can leave Windows pointing to a device that no longer exists: choose your speakers again.
