ROLI or LUMI piano not connecting or not detected
If your LUMI Keys or ROLI Piano M does not show up on your computer, the keyboard is almost never broken. In most cases the problem comes from the browser, a missing permission, the cable or the Bluetooth pairing. Go through these checks in order: most people are fixed by step 1 or 2.
1. Use Google Chrome
Web apps read your keyboard through the Web MIDI API. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge support it on macOS and Windows. Safari does not support Web MIDI, so a website will never see your keyboard in Safari, even if it is connected correctly.
2. Allow MIDI access
The first time you connect, Chrome asks whether the site may use your MIDI devices. If you clicked Block, click the icon on the left of the address bar, open the site settings and set MIDI device control to Allow. Then reload the page.
3. Check the USB cable
Some USB-C cables only charge and do not carry data. If your keyboard lights up but is not detected, try another cable, ideally the one supplied with the keyboard, and plug it directly into the computer rather than a hub.
4. Pair Bluetooth MIDI the right way
On a Mac, do not pair LUMI Keys from the regular Bluetooth menu. Open Audio MIDI Setup, choose Window then Show MIDI Studio, click the Bluetooth icon and connect the keyboard there. On Windows, Bluetooth MIDI support in browsers is limited, so a USB cable is the most reliable option.
5. Close other music apps
On Windows, a MIDI device can usually be used by only one app at a time. Close ROLI Dashboard, music software or other browser tabs that may be using the keyboard, then click connect again.
6. Restart the keyboard
Turn the keyboard off, check that the battery is charged, turn it back on and reload the page. If it is still not detected, restart the browser completely.
