How to play with both hands on a ROLI or LUMI piano

Tips to start playing with both hands on a small 24-key keyboard: hand positions, progressive versions of songs and practice methods.
Split the keyboard in two
On 24 keys, the lower octave is for the left hand and the upper octave for the right hand. Place your thumbs near the middle of the keyboard.
Learn each hand separately
Practice the right-hand melody until it is comfortable, then play the left hand alone. Only then put them together, slowly.
Use progressive versions
In DOLI PIANO most songs have three versions: right hand only, both hands with simple bass notes, and both hands with full chords. Move up one version at a time.
Slow down
Rhythm mode at 50% or 75% speed lets you keep the beat without rushing. Guided mode waits for each note, which is ideal for the first attempts.
Why two hands feel hard at first
Your brain is used to doing one precise movement at a time. Playing two different lines asks each hand to follow its own rhythm. This is completely normal, and it improves faster than most people expect: after a few sessions, simple patterns start to run on their own and you no longer need to think about every note.
A step-by-step method
1. Play the right hand alone until you can do it without stopping. 2. Play the left hand alone the same way. 3. Put them together very slowly, in Guided mode, so the song waits for every note. 4. Practice only the bars where you get stuck, then the whole song. 5. Move to Rhythm mode at 50% speed, then 75%, then 100%. Each step should feel almost easy before moving on.
Good songs to start
Pick pieces where the left hand plays one long note while the right hand moves: Ode to Joy, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Brahms' Lullaby or Silent Night in their both-hands simple version. Leave full chords for later.
