Using a ROLI or LUMI piano on a Chromebook: connect it over USB and play in Chrome. What to expect.

USB is the way

Chrome on ChromeOS supports Web MIDI. Connect the piano with a USB-C data cable and open DOLI PIANO.

Allow MIDI

Accept the MIDI permission when Chrome asks. Without it the keyboard stays invisible.

Not officially tested

Chromebooks are not yet our main test platform. If something does not work, a Mac or Windows PC with Chrome is the safest choice.

Step by step

1. Plug the keyboard into the Chromebook with a USB-C data cable. 2. Open Chrome and go to DOLI PIANO. 3. Click Start Playing and allow MIDI access. 4. Press a key on the keyboard so the app can line up the screen with your keys. 5. Choose a song in the library.

If nothing is detected

Try another USB-C port and another cable. Restart the Chromebook once. On school or company Chromebooks, an administrator may block MIDI devices: in that case, try a personal computer.

Sound on a Chromebook

The keyboard has no speaker, so sound comes from the Chromebook. Check that the volume is up and the right output is selected in the quick settings panel.
