Can I use my ROLI or LUMI piano on an iPad or iPhone without ROLI Learn?

What still works with LUMI Keys on iPad and iPhone without ROLI Learn, and why browser piano apps need a Mac or Windows computer.
Web apps need a computer for now
Safari on iPad and iPhone does not support Web MIDI. That means browser-based piano apps, including DOLI PIANO, cannot read your keyboard on iOS. Use a Mac or a Windows PC with Chrome.
Music apps still work
Many iOS music apps, such as GarageBand, accept a MIDI keyboard. You can connect LUMI Keys over Bluetooth from inside the app's MIDI settings, or with a USB-C cable on recent iPads.
What about learning?
Falling-note lessons arranged for 24 keys are easiest on a computer today. Connect your keyboard to a laptop and use your iPad as a second screen for sheet music if you like.
Connecting to an iPad with a cable
Recent iPads with a USB-C port accept the keyboard with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Older iPads with a Lightning port need Apple's Lightning to USB camera adapter. Once connected, music apps that support MIDI see the keyboard directly.
Connecting by Bluetooth on iOS
iOS does not pair MIDI keyboards from the Bluetooth settings. Open a music app that supports Bluetooth MIDI, such as GarageBand, and look in its settings for Bluetooth MIDI devices to connect the keyboard from there.
The simplest way to learn today
Use a Mac or Windows laptop with Chrome for falling-note practice, and keep your iPad for other music apps. The same keyboard works with both: just disconnect it from one before connecting to the other.
